There is an Adversary and You Can Overcome him

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8 KJV

For the thing which I greatly fear comes upon me, and that of which I am afraid befalls me.
Job 3:25 AMPC

The enemy is always trying to sniff out what we fear the most. No wonder why again and again in the Bible God tells us not to fear, nor to be afraid. Fear gives an open invitation to the enemy. Faith resists the enemy and causes him to flee.

Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9 AMPC

Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice. [Acts 18:10.]
Isaiah 41:10 AMPC

Even the Spirit that God has given His children is not the Spirit of fear but of power. See 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”.

There are characters in the Bible that suffered terrible assaults from the enemy. Two of the most notable ones were Job and Jesus. And to help us gain mastery in overcoming the Adversary, events surrounding these 2 would be highlighted throughout this message. And I pray that you will be truly blessed as you read on.

Now there was a day when the sons (the angels) of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan (the adversary and accuser) also came among them. [Rev. 12:10.]
Job 1:6 AMPC

And the Lord said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who [reverently] fears God and abstains from and shuns evil [because it is wrong]?
Job 1:8 AMPC

There is a Divine highlighting upon the man who is delighting the Lord. Such a man is a thorn in the side of the enemy. The enemy is constantly seeking for an opportunity against such. Such a man cannot afford to be careless around the enemy.

1 Corinthians 10:12 (KJV)
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

James 4:7 (AMP)
7 So submit to [the authority of] God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him] and he will flee from you.

I did not realise that there was actually a terminology in cybersecurity called layered attack and layered defence until I went to look it up in the process of the Holy Spirit downloading this message into my spirit.

Layered attack is a virus program that is set to routinely seek out vulnerabilities until it penetrates all defences and wreck havoc. Layered virus attacks are opposed by layered antivirus defence softwares.

Let’s look at the layer of attacks of the enemy:

1. Emptiness (lack): some quickly give in to the enemy as soon as there is a threat of losing their precious possessions. And some after losing what they hold dear would cave in to the enemy.

Mathew 6:19-21 (NIV) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Have You not put a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have conferred prosperity and happiness upon him in the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has, and he will curse You to Your face. And the Lord said to Satan (the adversary and the accuser), Behold, all that he has is in your power, only upon the man himself put not forth your hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
Job 1:10‭-‬12 AMPC

2. Pain
The threat of great discomfort and an intense attack of his (enemy) victim’s body.

Then Satan answered the Lord, Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has will he give for his life. But put forth Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse and renounce You to Your face. And the Lord said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life. So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord and smote Job with loathsome and painful sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.
Job 2:4‭-‬7 AMPC

3. Pressure
The push of the enemy upon the mind of his victim to the breaking point.

Sometimes the enemy could use the closest to you to influence your will.

Then his wife said to him, Do you still hold fast your blameless uprightness? Renounce God and die!
Job 2:9 AMPC

Matthew 4:5-7 King James Version (KJV)
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

4. Pleasure
If his victim is not one that has developed a strong stamina against 1 to 3 the enemy introduces a false reprieve. An experience that is seemingly a better choice than the experience of pain and pressure.

Matthew 4:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5. Presents
Once his victim gives in to pleasure, presents follow. An exchange for his victim’s soul.

Matthew 4:8-10 King James Version (KJV)
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Mark 8:36 Amplified Bible (AMP)
36 For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world [with all its pleasures], and forfeit his soul?

Matthew 24:13 (KJV)
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Is the enemy presently layering an attack against you, what vulnerability is he exploring?

– Job came out on the other side victorious:

And the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. He had also seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first Jemimah, and the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-happuch. And in all the land there were no women so fair as the daughters of Job, and their father gave them inheritance among their brothers. After this, Job lived 140 years, and saw his sons and his sons’ sons, even to four generations. So Job died, an old man and full of days.
Job 42:12‭-‬17 AMPC

– Jesus Christ defeated the adversary not just once but for eternity.

He canceled out every legal violation we had on our record and the old arrest warrant that stood to indict us. He erased it all—our sins, our stained soul—he deleted it all and they cannot be retrieved ! Everything we once were in Adam has been placed onto his cross and nailed permanently there as a public display of cancellation. Then Jesus made a public spectacle of all the powers and principalities of darkness, stripping away from them every weapon and all their spiritual authority and power to accuse us. And by the power of the cross, Jesus led them around as prisoners in a procession of triumph. He was not their prisoner; they were his!
Colossians 2:14‭-‬15 TPT

[God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].
Colossians 2:15 AMPC

The  multilayered-attack of the enemy is to bring his victims into a place of bondage, so that he can:

1. Perpetually Steal from his victim

2. Kill off any authentic life that his victim has.

3. Destroy and make a mess of his victim’s existence.

How do you deal with the Adversary and overcome him?

A. Follow the example of Jesus Christ. He faced the adversary and He overcame in the power of the Word and the Holy Spirit:

THEN JESUS was led (guided) by the [Holy] Spirit into the wilderness (desert) to be tempted (tested and tried) by the devil. And He went without food for forty days and forty nights, and later He was hungry. [Exod. 34:28; I Kings 19:8.]

And the tempter came and said to Him, If You are God’s Son, command these stones to be made [loaves of] bread. But He replied, It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.

Then the devil took Him into the holy city and placed Him on a turret (pinnacle, gable) of the temple sanctuary.
And he said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written, He will give His angels charge over you, and they will bear you up on their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone. Jesus said to him, On the other hand, it is written also, You shall not tempt, test thoroughly, or try exceedingly the Lord your God.

Again, the devil took Him up on a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory (the splendor, magnificence, preeminence, and excellence) of them. And he said to Him, These things, all taken together, I will give You, if You will prostrate Yourself before me and do homage and worship me. Then Jesus said to him, Begone, Satan! For it has been written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him alone shall you serve.

Then the devil departed from Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
Matthew 4:1‭-‬11 AMPC

Jesus battled the adversary and Jesus won. The Holy Spirit led Him and did not leave Him. If you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour and you are baptized with the Holy Spirit: you can pattern your warefare after Jesus against the adversary and the same outcome of victory will be yours. Glory be to God.

B. Be equipped with a Multilayered Defense (put on the whole armour of God):

Ephesians 6:11-18 (KJV)
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

Final notes:
– Anyone who is experiencing the multi-layered attack of the enemy and is not in Christ Jesus is in a huge crisis and it is critical that he should receive salvation and come under the Lordship of Jesus Christ or such would be consumed by the enemy.

– The adversary like a roaring lion will attack and it is not a case of if but when. When anyone is in a fight against the enemy is not the time to become judgemental. If one has no Holy Spirit inspired word to say it is best to just seat with him, and pray for him.

So they sat down with [Job] on the ground for seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief and pain were very great.
Job 2:13 AMPC

– Safety is not the absence of danger but the active Presence of God. For all who are in Christ Jesus and have been baptized by the Holy Spirit and are being led by the Same…we can always expect timely Divine intervention.

So [as the result of the Messiah’s intervention] they shall [reverently] fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him and put him to flight [for He will come like a rushing stream which the breath of the Lord drives].
Isaiah 59:19 AMPC

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever
John 14:16 AMPC

Glory be to God!

No son of God is ever helpless against the onslaught of the enemy because the helping hand of God is always there to strengthen and hold us up.

We shall always have timely Divine assistance in Jesus Name. Amen!

————————————————–

I need Jesus and you need Jesus. I have asked Jesus into my heart and He has transformed my life for the better. I am experiencing my God given dreams becoming a reality daily. I am existing in the realm of divine possibilities.

Jesus can usher you like He did me into same existence of eternal possibilities and a life of dreams becoming a reality.
It is very true that…there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].”
(ACTS 4:12 AMP)

Salvation through Christ Jesus is free but you must make the decision to receive it.
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16 NLT)

…If you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting in his justification [that is, being made righteous—being freed of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation.
(ROMANS 10:9‭-‬10 AMP)

Now pray this prayer meaningfully if you are willing: “Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept You out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear You knocking. By faith I gratefully receive Your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe You are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank You for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe Your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Saviour. Amen”.

Congratulations if you’ve just said that prayer and I joyously welcome you to the higher life in Christ Jesus. You are now on the path of your divine destiny and your God given dreams are very possible.
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
(2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV)
